The importance of Vitamin-A
Many people are troubled by recurrent infections of the lungs, ears or sinuses and others may be affected by gastrointestinal disorders or urinary tract infections. All of these organs have internal linings called ‘mucosa’ and these linings have their own immune defence systems. Vitamin-A has an immensely important role in mucosal defence. Many people suffer from a Vitamin-A deficiency due to the fact that they have a very poor intake of fruit and vegetables with over 90% of the Australian population consuming fruit and vegatables at levels far below that recommended by the government and rarely consume foods rich in preformed Vitamin-A.
