Button-Magnesium-Big-4-Related

Magnesium Forms and their benefits: The Activ8Health Big-4 Magnesium Capsules

  1. Magnesium is critical for Insulin Signalling to work. Without Magnesium Insulin Resistance (IR) just worsens, diabetes and prediabetes will spiral out of control
  2. Without magnesium, ATP the currency of cellular energy won’t form as Magnesium is vital for ATPase to work
  3. Magnesium is involved in around 300 cellular reactions
  4. Insulin resistance due to Magnesium deficiency causes renal loss of magnesium, leading to more insulin resistance and hence more magnesium loss through the kidneys – a vicious cycle allowed to carry on in the medical care of those insulin resistant or diabetic. Something that should never happen.
  5. Alzheimer’s is thought to be insulin resistance of the brain – Type-3 Diabetes of the Brain
  6. Magnesium is critical for musculoskeletal health, nerve transmission and over 60% of the body’s Magnesium is found in bone so bone health depends on magnesium.
  7. Magnesium and Calcium need to be at a critical ratio otherwise intracellular Calcium can build up triggering off systemic inflammation. Magnesium helps lower CRP and E-Selectin a marker for Endothelial Function an early sign of vascular disease41
  8. E-Selectin is also INVERSELY related to low Magnesium levels 41. The lower the Magnesium level, the higher will be E-Selectin and a worsening of Endothelial Dysfunction as a corollary.
  9. Please take Magnesium with an early dinner at night not in the morning as it can relax you and cause sleepiness which is a good thing for many

This is an extremely important concept to understand. Why Magnesium is not used as a knee-jerk reaction to anyone with prediabetes or diabetes or for that matter hypertension which can be a part of the Metabolic Syndrome an Insulin Resistant (IR) state is a mystery.

What happens with low magnesium levels is that there is increased renal excretion and this renal excretion leads to lower and lower Magnesium levels and this in turn lowers intracellular Magnesium which is critical for insulin signalling making Insulin Resistance (IR) worse. An absolute vicious cycle if ever there was one.

“Moreover, insulin receptor autophosphorylation is dependent
on intracellular Mg2+ concentrations, making Mg2+ a direct factor in the development of insulin resistance. Conversely, insulin is an important regulator of Mg2+ homeostasis. In the kidney, insulin activates the renal
Mg2+ channel transient receptor potential melastatin type 6 that determines the final urinary Mg2+ excretion11

Critical flaws in research such as this study which stated categorically that a 12 week trial showed that magnesium supplementation did not work259. This shows flawed thinking in nutrient research where nutrients are supposed to work like magic bullets i.e., instantaneously like drugs in an Accident & Emergency Dept. This is simply foolish. Dietary and nutrient management need far longer time-frames of 20 – 40 weeks to reach steady state260. As the authors of this study states, it is time for a reappraisal of the use of magnesium in so many states that are exacerbated by hypomagnesaemia but where flawed research has tainted the minds of practitioners. There are vast pools of magnesium intracellularly, in bone (60%) and intracellular spaces (40%) thus serum magnesium is a very unreliable marker of Magnesium status. These pools will avidly take up supplemented Magnesium so it will take time, a great deal of time to reach a steady state260.

A high Calcium intake and low Magnesium intake will make matters worse in terms of intracellular Mg 2+levels and high intracellular Ca2+ trigger NFkB and inflammatory changes77.

The Activ8Health Big-4 Blend

Magnesium Threonate (MgT)
  • Researched at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Nobel Laureate as a part of the team
  • The Threonate component is a derivative of Vitamin-C
  • This form crosses the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB)
Magnesium Glycinate
  • Shown to help with anxiety
  • Shown to be of benefit in many conditions including high blood pressure, stroke, heart rhythms, fibromyalgia, pain syndromes, all cause mortality, Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus 65.
Magnesium Orotate
  • Magnesium Orotate is a chelate of Magnesium + Orotic Acid
  • It is interesting some people use this form for the benefits of Magnesium
  • Others take this chelate form of Magnesium for the Orotic acid used in sports for endurance and heart health
Magnesium Citrate
  • A great all-round magnesium that helps build up Magnesium levels throughout the body
  • Helping to decrease arterial wall stiffness and lowering blood pressure 65.
A low Magnesium level leads to dangerous cellular events

Low Magnesium levels have been stated as being a PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS 45

Low Magnesium sets into motion this series of events that you will recognise as being some of the most common presentation in General Practice and medicine in general 44.

  1. Low Magnesium levels switch off Tyrosine Kinase needed to turn ‘on’ the Insulin receptor and insulin signalling
  2. When Insulin Signalling is disrupted, you have Insulin Resistance and when this happens, blood glucose levels increase causing widespread damage (Glycation)
  3. Insulin Resistance will cause Beta Cell Burnout eventually
  4. Low Magnesium creates a dysfunctional Na-Mg Exchanger protein 44 and this allows a disproportionate amount of Sodium (Na) and Calcium (Ca) to enter the cells
  5. High intracellular Sodium and Calcium lead to hypertension and inflammation setting the scene for cardiovascular disease and Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC)
  6. Magnesium is a natural antagonist for Calcium – a natural Calcium Channel Blocker. So low levels of Magnesium allows Calcium to predominate and if there is also low Vitamin-K1/K2 levels, then Calcium will enter soft tissues and cardiac valves. Why would there be a Low Vitamin-K1/K2 level? Well 99% of the Australian population does not get their recommended intakes of Veggies and Fruit!!!

Dosing

  • Each capsule contains a total of 83.3 mg in total of all the magnesium components
  • It is suggested to take 4 – 6 capsules at night with food with an early dinner as a LOADING DOSE for 2 weeks
  • To then go on a maintenance dose of 3 capsules at night with an early dinner
